It was a good run, but the Southwestern Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Pikeville on the road and fell 68-37. Southwestern was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-14.
When it comes to explaining why Southwestern lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kinsley Molden. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points. The game was Molden's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Acey, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Pikeville, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
Southwestern won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Meade County at 1:45 p.m. on December 30th. Meade County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southwestern in Kentucky (Meade County is ranked seventh, while Southwestern is ranked 75th). Pikeville and Paintsville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Paintsville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 282 points over their last four games.
