The Covington-Douglas Wildcats were the 45-37 winner over the Waukomis Chiefs when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Covington-Douglas fell 67-56 to Waukomis on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Covington-Douglas lost, one person who can't be blamed is Derrek Daugherty. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and 19 rebounds. Daugherty scored a full 44.6% of Covington-Douglas' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ford Smith was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 9 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Covington-Douglas and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Waukomis, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Covington-Douglas will be playing at home against Dover at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waukomis, they will head out on the road to face off against Coyle at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
