University hasn't had much luck against Palisades recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will head out to face off against the Dolphins at 3:00 p.m. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
University will bounce into Friday's match after beating Fairfax, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Lions on Thursday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
Kayla Anzora was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Anzora was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Kayla Carpenter was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Melanye Escobar was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Palisades came up short against Hamilton on Wednesday, falling 13-1. The Dolphins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Palisades saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Celia Elisha, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Palisades now has a losing record of 3-4. As for University, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Palisades' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. It's a different story for Palisades, though, as they've only averaged .327. Will they be able to contain University's hitters?
University might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Palisades when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
