Basketball Game Preview: Bonita Vista Barons vs. Mount Miguel Matadors

The Bonita Vista Barons will challenge the Mount Miguel Matadors at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bonita Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Bonita Vista picked up another tournament win last Saturday. They came out on top against Lincoln by a score of 75-63. Given the Barons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Hornets are ranked 605th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bonita Vista found their leader in sophomore Jerry Stokes, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 21 points and five assists. The contest was Stokes' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Bonita Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mount Miguel). They snuck past Clairemont with a 76-71 win on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Bonita Vista has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Mount Miguel, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Everything went Bonita Vista's way against Mount Miguel in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Bonita Vista made off with a 63-43 victory. Will Bonita Vista repeat their success, or does Mount Miguel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
