Basketball Recap: Faith Christian Comes Up Short

Faith Christian was the 41-29 winner over School of the Woods when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Faith Christian Saints were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 31-30 to the School of the Woods Wildcats. While the Saints didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 15-10 in the first quarter.

Faith Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Yulissa DelaRosa, who posted 11 points in addition to six assists and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 22 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Destiny Martinez, who earned 13 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Faith Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Kate Checo-Leckova had an outrageously good game for School of the Woods as she scored ten points along with eight rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Checo-Leckova a new career-high in steals. Isabella Lamego was another key player, putting up six points.

Faith Christian's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for School of the Woods, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8.

Faith Christian has already played their next contest, a 60-29 win against Community Christian on the 7th. As for School of the Woods, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-5 defeat against Cornerstone Christian Academy on the 7th.
