Basketball Recap: Independence Comes Up Short

On Monday, the Independence Patriots were beaten by the Princeton Tigers 68-26. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Independence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lacey Goodson dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. That was a full 38.5% of Independence's points, marking the ninth time in a row Goodson has posted more than a third of the team's points. Khloe Moore also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Princeton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kalee Wright led the charge by putting up 20 points and three steals. Asia Collins was another key player, posting two points along with ten assists, seven rebounds, and four steals.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Princeton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 52-45 victory against South Charleston on the 14th. As for Princeton, they have also already played their next game, a 59-45 win against Nicholas County on the 13th.
