The Red Bud Musketeers will challenge the Carbondale Terriers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carbondale will be up against a hot Red Bud squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Musketeers never let Metro-East Lutheran get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday.
Olivia Geralds made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Wagner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Crewe Wagner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Red Bud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Carbondale gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against DuQuoin as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Terriers have beaten the Indians the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Indians has come to flipping the script.
Like Red Bud, Carbondale also got a great game from a two-way player: Lauren Lehman. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Lehman was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jasmine Martin was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sydney Tanner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Red Bud's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Carbondale, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Carbondale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Red Bud has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. It's a different story for Carbondale, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Red Bud's hitters?
