King's Fork extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They came up short against the Oscar Smith Tigers, falling 13-5. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Josh Harris and Camden Hill did some serious damage despite the final result: Harris got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Hill went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Mekhi Mercer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Oscar Smith, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On Oscar Smith's side, Braden Copeland and Alex White were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Copeland tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, White struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Copeland also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oscar Smith is 5-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. At the plate, Copeland went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while White went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sean Brown, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jordan Scarborough was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King's Fork will venture away from home to take on Heritage at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs are facing the Hurricanes at the right time seeing as the Hurricanes are stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Oscar Smith, they will head out on the road to square off against Grassfield at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
