The Childress Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Wall Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Childress rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on Abernathy with a sharp 28-6 victory. Winning may never get old, but Childress sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Childress' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Isaiah Jalomo, who picked up 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Dareon Mathis, who rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Mathis' longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.
Meanwhile, Wall waltzed into Friday's game with five straight wins but they left with six. They didn't even let Tornillo onto the board and left with a 66-0 victory. Given Wall's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 400th, while Tornillo is ranked 1193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Nathan Pepper, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Quinney made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Childress is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Wall, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Childress took a serious blow against Wall in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 44-10. Can Childress avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
