The Lake Catholic Cougars will head out to challenge the Mentor Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Lake Catholic will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Lake Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Elyria Catholic on Wednesday, sneaking past 12-11. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this contest were averaging 3.29 runs allowed.

Shea Sievers was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Brayden Mann was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Danny Locker also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mentor took on Cleveland Heights on Friday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Tigers. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Like Lake Catholic, Mentor also got a great game from a two-way player: Pat Collins. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Collins was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Johnny Prentice looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyson Cendrowski, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Austin Vanhuss was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Lake Catholic pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Mentor, their record is now 8-1.
Lake Catholic might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Mentor in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
