Basketball Recap: Leyton's Winning Streak Snapped at 13 Games

Leyton has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 26.21 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Platte Blue Knights. The Warriors' defeat signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Leyton still got an impressive performance from Zaili Benish, who posted 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Benish's afternoon made it 25 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawnee Gamble, who earned 11 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Leyton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

South Platte's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Johanna Frerichs, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine steals. Frerichs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played. Isabelle Reichman was another key player, going 8 of 14 on her way to 20 points and six boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Leyton fell to 13-1. As for South Platte, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Leyton has already played their next game, a 70-10 win against Banner County on the 28th. As for South Platte, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 53-39 loss against Garden County on the 30th.
