Haddam-Killingworth is 9-1 against Cromwell since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will host the Panthers at 3:45 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Haddam-Killingworth 2.7, Cromwell 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Haddam-Killingworth's victory against Portland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Highlanders a 1-0 shutout on Saturday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Highlanders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Cromwell hadn't done well against North Branford recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers blew past the Thunderbirds 10-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the match before.
Jess Elfreich and Tyler Bonelli made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Elfreich pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Bonelli struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Elfreich has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Elfreich went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Bonelli went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Bonelli has become a key player for Cromwell: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Sam Cleveland was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Ben Burdick was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Cromwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Cromwell is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Haddam-Killingworth, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
Haddam-Killingworth came out on top in a nail-biter against Cromwell in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
