It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Archbishop Carroll Lions had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They managed a 27-21 victory over Bishop Ireton. Given Archbishop Carroll's advantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while Bishop Ireton is ranked 95th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop Carroll to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nate Green jr, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 164 yards and a touchdown. TK Davis was another key contributor, rushing for 139 yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Bishop Ireton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Omar Diallo. Despite the final result, he rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
Archbishop Carroll is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Bishop Ireton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Archbishop Carroll will take on St. Mary's Ryken at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary's Ryken will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. Bishop Ireton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
