The Hunter Wolverines will challenge the Taylorsville Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Hunter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Skyline 20-2 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolverines needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
LEILA AIONO made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Hunter got a massive performance out of KENYA LAPUAHO, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI LAPUAHO has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was LOIANA IONGI, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Hunter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Taylorsville got the win against Kearns on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-2. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Like Hunter, Taylorsville also got a great game from a two-way player: Tianna Hansen. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hansen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amari Aguila, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Megan Sterzer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
Hunter's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5. As for Taylorsville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Hunter might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Taylorsville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wolverines have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
