Given Lakeland Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 367th, while Ridgeview Global Studies Academy is ranked 782nd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lakeland Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joseph Donohue out in front who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Donohue scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Stephens, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Ridgeview Global Studies Academy still got an impressive performance from Bryan Lopez, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lopez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mehiel Charles, who scored six points.
Lakeland Christian's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Ridgeview Global Studies Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Lakeland Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Santa Fe Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. One thing working in Santa Fe Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests. As for Ridgeview Global Studies Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Oasis Christian at 7:15 p.m. Oasis Christian is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
