In what's become a running theme this season, St. Charles gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They breezed by North Point on the road to the tune of 59-29. Given St. Charles' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while North Point is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Shamir Taylor, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Tajir Webster was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Chopticon's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell 55-48 to McDonough.
Despite the loss, Chopticon saw an underclassman step up: Braylon Harrison dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Harrison is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Pernell, who scored six points along with seven assists.
St. Charles has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Chopticon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: St. Charles have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Chopticon struggles in that department as they've made 38.8% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Charles beat Chopticon 74-61 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Chopticon's Kanye McMahon, who shot 4-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for St. Charles to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
