The Bear River Bears will challenge the Malad Dragons at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Malad will be up against a hot Bear River team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Bears' pitcher stepped up to hand Morgan an 8-0 shutout on Friday.
Ethan Higgs made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Bear River let Holden Potter and J Theure run wild. Potter went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Theure got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave Theure a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Malad entered their tilt with American Falls on Saturday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Beavers.
Like Bear River, Malad also got a great game from a two-way player: Kurt Ward. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Ward has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Carter Blaisdell and Carter Carey did most of the damage at the plate: Blaisdell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Carey went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Rydon Montgomery was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Malad hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.
Malad's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Bear River, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
