The Coleman Comets came into Wednesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They escaped with a win on Wednesday against Vestaburg by the margin of a single free throw, 28-27. The win was just what Coleman needed coming off of a 35-15 defeat in their prior contest.
Coleman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emily VanSickle, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Chaffee, who scored five points along with six steals.
Despite the loss, Vestaburg saw an underclassman step up: Jessica Stouten scored six points along with ten rebounds. Stouten is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight.
Coleman's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-11. As for Vestaburg, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-9.
Coleman will be playing at home against Breckenridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Breckenridgepresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Coleman in Michigan (Breckenridge is ranked 220th, while Coleman is ranked 560th). As for Vestaburg, they will be playing at home against Merrill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Vestaburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
