Jamin Patterson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Matt Hegerle was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Memphis Sparks was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Bear Creek hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Highlands Ranch hadn't done well against Heritage recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Thomas Healy tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Highlands Ranch: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Dave, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Highlands Ranch's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cody Dane, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Highlands Ranch's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10. As for Bear Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 5-14.
Bear Creek suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Highlands Ranch in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
