The Putnam County War Eagles's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Hancock Central Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Putnam County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Hancock Central likes a good challenge.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Putnam County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Jasper County 73-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Landon Bonner, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The match was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Jeremy Banks was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Hancock Central, who are still winless after their fifth contest. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 70-69 to Greene County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Saturday (58), Hancock Central still had to take the loss.
Putnam County's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Hancock Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Putnam County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hancock Central when the teams last played back in November, but they still walked away with a 69-65 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Putnam County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
