Woodgrove is a perfect 10-0 against Loudoun Valley since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will head out to face off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m.
Woodgrove fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Loudoun County on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 21-20 to the Captains. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Captains recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Woodgrove had strong showings from Joey Ridolfi, who rushed for 121 yards and one score, and Colton Dabkowski, who rushed for 34 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Loudoun Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 52.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Huskies, posting a 47-0 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Vikings just coasted through the last quarter.
Loudoun Valley's win came from a few key players Woodgrove will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ethan Lafollette, who rushed for 139 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, defending one pass and snagged two interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Macklin Gaffney was another key player, gaining 68 total yards and two touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Loudoun Valley proved: they limited Tuscarora to a paltry 1.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Brayden Supplee for the heroic effort on defense: he. Loudoun Valley didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.5.
Loudoun Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Lafollette led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Mason Kirby got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Loudoun Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Woodgrove, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Woodgrove has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Loudoun Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 197.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Woodgrove skirted past Loudoun Valley 16-14 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
