The Murphysboro Red Devils will square off against the Jacobs Golden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Murphysboro has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Murphysboro managed to slip by Goreville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Murphysboro lost 13-5 to Goreville on Saturday. The Red Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Reece Mileur was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corbin Compardo, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Jacobs beat Hononegah 7-2 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.
Aiden Stumpf made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stumpf was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other pitching news, Jacobs got a great performance from Braden Behrens as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Grummer, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Andrew Deegan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Jacobs pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Murphysboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Murphysboro might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Jacobs in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Murphysboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
