The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to face off against the Christian Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Point Loma 3.2, Christian 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Point Loma will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Thursday. The Pointers blew past the Pilots 11-1. Considering the Pointers have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Ryoko Schroth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Schroth was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Point Loma let Annika Isaacson and Avery MacPherson run wild. Isaacson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while MacPherson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI MacPherson has posted since back in March. Tate Ondre was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Point Loma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Our Lady of Peace only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Christian entered their tilt with Cathedral Catholic on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Dons a 7-0 shutout.
Alyssa McCurty made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Lucy Sherburne was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sammy Baca, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Christian pushed their record up to 18-4-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Point Loma, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-1 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Point Loma hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
