The Iroquois Braves were the 45-33 winner over Erie First Christian Academy when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Iroquois lost to the at home by a decisive 68-52 margin on Friday. Iroquois has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Iroquois lost, one person who can't be blamed is Javion Lucas. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lucas has scored all season. Kellen Burroughs was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Iroquois were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Erie First Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Collins led the charge by scoring 26 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of Erie First Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Iroquois' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Erie First Christian Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Iroquois will square off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie First Christian Academy is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Girard will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
