After only 12 points in their last matchup, the Whitko Wildcats made sure to put some points up on the board against the Southwood Knights on Wednesday. Whitko took down Southwood 67-48. Given Whitko's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Southwood is ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitko was led to victory by Kyler Krull and Sam Essegian. Krull scored 20 points along with two steals, while Essegian dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Hoffman, who scored 11 points.
Southwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryce Wilcox, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Maddox Marshall, who scored 14 points.
Southwood struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Whitko racked up 15 assists.
Whitko is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Southwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Whitko will be playing in front of their home fans against Peru at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Peru has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Southwood, they will head out on the road to take on North Miami at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Miami is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
