The Gaither Cowboys had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They snuck past Spoto with a 58-53 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Gaither also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2022.
It was another big night for Jayce Humphries, who scored 24 points. Marc Fransberg was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Spoto lost, one person who can't be blamed is Donovan McSwain. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. McSwain continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jerren Rodriguez, who scored eight points.
Gaither's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Spoto, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaither will take on Middleton at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Middleton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 681st, while Gaither is ranked 283rd). Spoto won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Blake at 8:00 p.m. on January 25th. Blake is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
