The Harbor Beach Pirates will face off against the Vassar Vulcans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Harbor Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Harbor Beach barely beat Brown City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates' pitcher stepped up to hand the Green Devils a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The Pirates not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2025 (when they won 13-3).
Harbor Beach got a great performance from Ryan Seidl as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Seidl has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Skiler Kruse, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Rogan Messing was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
Harbor Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Vassar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 17-2 to Reese.
Cole Nickerson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
The victory got Harbor Beach back to even at 2-2. As for Vassar, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Vassar's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Harbor Beach has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .487. It's a different story for Vassar, though, as they've only averaged .263. Will they be able to contain Harbor Beach's hitters?
Harbor Beach was able to grind out a solid win over Vassar when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 9-6. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vulcans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
