Cooper Kelly made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.
In other batting news, Lofton Gonzalez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gib Wirt, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Burlington Christian Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harrells Christian Academy struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, while Westchester Country Day put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Greenfield. The Wildcats walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Knights.
Ryan Engle was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Westchester Country Day is 2-1 when Engle posts one or more home runs, but 7-10 otherwise.
Burlington Christian Academy pushed their record up to 21-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Westchester Country Day, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
Both Burlington Christian Academy and Westchester Country Day just can't seem to miss. The Royals have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Westchester Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
