Hagerstown and Northeastern are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Tigers will square off against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hagerstown will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Hagerstown is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Centerville.
Rylan Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Allison Stinson was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Northeastern made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cambridge City Lincoln on Friday. The Knights blew past the Golden Eagles 11-1. Considering the Knights have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hailey Elsrod made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Peed, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Macey Oler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Northeastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Hagerstown's record is now 18-2. As for Northeastern, their record now sits at 10-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hagerstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hagerstown was able to grind out a solid victory over Northeastern in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
