Basketball Recap: Landon Thomas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Callaway over East Coweta

Callaway lost against East Coweta back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Callaway Cavaliers lost to the East Coweta Indians at home by a 59-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 405th, while the Indians are ranked 87th).

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Landon Thomas, who posted seven points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. What's more, Thomas also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Aj Williams was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Harper Rife went supernova for East Coweta, going 7 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 25 points. The game was Rife's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Qwes Williams, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Callaway and nudges their season record down to 3-13. As for East Coweta, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Callaway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 52-39 victory against Rutland on the 28th. East Coweta has also already played their next game, an 87-49 win against Stephenson on the 20th.
