Ovid-Elsie has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Constantine Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Ovid-Elsie rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Lansing Catholic at home to the tune of 42-13. Considering Ovid-Elsie has won five matches by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ovid-Elsie's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Clayton Fruchey, who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and Tryce Tokar, who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Tokar really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.
Meanwhile, Constantine entered their tilt with Buchanan with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Constantine came out on top against Buchanan by a score of 21-14 on Saturday.
Brendan Presswood and Bennett Vandenberg were among the main playmakers for Constantine as the former rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries and the latter rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Ovid-Elsie's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. As for Constantine, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Ovid-Elsie has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Constantine struggles in that department as they've been even better at 315.7 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
