Waconia is a perfect 5-0 against St. Louis Park since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will face off against the Orioles at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Waconia took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Chaska, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hawks on Friday, sneaking past 8-6. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Reagan Mieras was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI were her first of the season. Maya Pena was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Waconia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
12 must be St. Louis Park's lucky number: they beat Kennedy with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Orioles put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Orioles.
Azlyn McDonnell made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. McDonnell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, St. Louis Park got a big performance out of Ella Tousignault, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eva Taybior, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The victory got St. Louis Park back to even at 4-4. As for Waconia, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Everything went Waconia's way against St. Louis Park when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Waconia made off with an 11-3 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Orioles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
