2A-1 Region II District 6 recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Van Alstyne, who took down 720th ranked Van Alstyne, 31-21. Daxx Hill ran for 139 yards in the win.
Sunnyvale extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week by beating Farmersville, 33-18. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
John Settle's team's dynamic duo of Ryan Cottingame and Josh Quinn proved tough for the Farmers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cottingame threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns and Quinn had 91 yards receiving. Daniel Mullican helped Sunnyvale's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 83 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Cottingame of Sunnyvale is the league leader in passing yards this season with 983. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, Howe's Garrette Griffin has rushed for 624 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dallas Sewell. The Pottsboro star has 22 catches for 570 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Caddo Mills takes on Sunnyvale. The Foxes are currently in sixth, while Sunnyvale is in first.
Caddo Mills moved up to 807 from 877 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region II District 6. Steve Sumrow's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 31-21 win over the Panthers.
