The Westerly Bulldogs will challenge the Fitch Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Westerly will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Westerly proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past North Kingstown 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since May 28, 2024.
Avery Gingerella looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Poole, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tori Gabriele, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fitch faced East Haven in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Falcons never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Not much got past Hailey Merrill, who gave up just seven hits to keep East Haven off the board.
On the hitting side, Fitch got a massive performance out of Katie MacPherson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Jaedyn Steffens was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Westerly's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fitch, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westerly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Fitch struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westerly couldn't quite finish off Fitch when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
