In what's become a running theme this season, North Warren Central gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past Granville 73-53. With North Warren Central ahead 38-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
North Warren Central can attribute much of their success to Semaj Cuyler, who scored 23 points along with five assists and two steals, and Derrick Tyrell, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds. Tyrell is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Horge, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Warrensburg had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 43-32 win over Lake George. That's two games straight that Warrensburg has won by exactly 11 points.
Warrensburg had a senior duo take command as Brady Cheney scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and Evan Lapell dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Lapell has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Steve Schloss was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
North Warren Central's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Warrensburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: North Warren Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Warrensburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
North Warren Central beat Warrensburg 48-37 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Warren Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
