Basketball Recap: Gulf Extends Winning Streak to Three

Gulf hadn't done well against East Lake recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Gulf Buccaneers snuck past the East Lake Eagles with a 45-39 win. The victory was nothing new for the Buccaneers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Gulf's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tajinae Bonney, who posted 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Bonney is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Brenniyah Hall was another key player, putting up eight points along with ten boards and five steals.

East Lake lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Merolla Khaleel, who had nine points and five rebounds. That's the most points Khaleel has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanda Egipciaco, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Gulf pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for East Lake, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Gulf didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-44 victory against Classical Prep on the 5th. As for East Lake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-28 loss against Northside Christian on the 6th.
