Baseball Recap: Booker Sets Scoring Season-High Against Follett

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Booker). They walked away with a 19-15 victory over the Follett Panthers on Saturday. The Kiowas haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Chase Nelson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Booker: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayland Gonzales, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Hoover, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Booker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Booker's record is now 5-2. As for Follett, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Booker will venture away from home to square off against Boys Ranch at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Follett, they will host White Deer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. White Deer has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18 runs per game on average), something Follett will no doubt try to take advantage of.
