East Liverpool is 0-10 against Steubenville since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The East Liverpool Potters will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Steubenville Big Red at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
After only 15 points in their last match, East Liverpool made sure to put some points up on the board against Toronto on Wednesday. East Liverpool simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Toronto 61-18 on the road. The victory was some much needed relief for East Liverpool as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Steubenville entered their tilt with Catholic Central with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Steubenville blew past Catholic Central 57-29 at home. Given Steubenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Catholic Central is ranked 440th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Steubenville found their leader in underclassman Nylah Mcshan, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Mcshan's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Criss, who scored nine points along with three steals and three blocks.
The win got East Liverpool back to even at 5-5. As for Steubenville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
East Liverpool was dealt a bruising 57-24 loss at the hands of Steubenville in their previous matchup on December 7th. Can East Liverpool avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
