This week's postseason excitement didn't throw the rankings into complete disarray, but it did reorder the standings a decent amount. The action included a dizzyingly high 106-point combined score from Summit and Voorhees.
Can't Touch This
Somerville got a 35 - 14 win over Raritan last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Jalahn Dabney. Dabney earned four touchdowns and 317 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Dabney among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between St. Joseph (5th in the power rankings) and Staples (18th) did not disappoint. St. Joseph narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Staples 17 - 14. Junior Jaden Shirden deserves a lot of the credit as he rushed for 171 yards and one touchdown.
No Stoppin 'Em
106. That was the combined point total for Summit and Voorhees when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. Summit came out on top against Voorhees with a 57 - 49 win. The victory boosted Summit a satisfying six spots in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Fairfield Prep (7th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and North Haven (9th). This will be the second home game in a row for Fairfield Prep. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both it and North Haven put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they play one another this week.
