Baseball Recap: Mexia's Win Ends Eight-Game Losing Streak at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Groesbeck, Mexia was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Westwood Panthers with a sharp 15-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Black Cats, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Adriano Mendoza made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaden Cargile, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Mexia: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-12 otherwise. Gabe Solis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Mexia's victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-12. As for Westwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-17.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mexia will welcome Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Black Cats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
