The Bryan Bears's game last Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past Burke 76-54. Given Bryan's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Burke is ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Bryan to victory were Amir Martin and A'mare Bynum. Martin scored 22 points, while Bynum dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Jarmon, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Burke still got an impressive performance from Michael White, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Vereen-burton, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Bryan's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Burke, they bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bryan won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Buena Vista at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. Buena Vista comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Burke will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Papillion-LaVista at 7:15 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Papillion-LaVista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
