Baseball Recap: Blue Ridge Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Blue Ridge never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against the Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jays, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lochlan 'Bear' Paul was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Blue Ridge is undefeated when Paul posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Paul Berry looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Dominic Paul was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Blue Ridge's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Josh Craig, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Blue Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Blue Ridge's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Virginia Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Blue Ridge will face off against Faith Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest Virginia Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Jays' game: after the Jays face off against Roanoke Valley Christian, they'll take on Southwest Virginia Academy again at 4:30 p.m. on May 2.
