Merritt Island hasn't had much luck against Viera recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Merritt Island Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Viera Hawks at 7:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Merritt Island was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Space Coast on Friday. Merritt Island blew past Space Coast 10-2.
Rindi Amos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
On the hitting side, Tianna Garcia was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Rollen, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Merritt Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Space Coast onlymanaged four hits.
Meanwhile, Viera posted their biggest victory since April 9, 2024 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 18-2 margin over Melbourne.
Riley Makousky was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Makousky was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Rider, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Potts, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
The win got Viera back to even at 1-1. As for Merritt Island, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.
Merritt Island skirted past Viera 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Merritt Island repeat their success, or does Viera have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
