Inland Valley recap Sept. 26, 2012
Tarique Lusk and Matt Murray provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Canyon Springs. The longest such play in Inland Valley this season, the connection resulted in 66 yards.
Arlington's Martez Duarte recorded the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Vista del Lago last week. Duarte's team bested the Ravens as he sprinted for 90 yards on the play and finished with 190 in all.
Poly's dynamic duo of Chandler Drachslin and Murray proved tough for the Cougars to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Drachslin threw for 71 yards and one touchdown and Murray had 133 yards receiving. Jeff Salamon helped Poly's passing attack out by catching one ball for four yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Chris Whitfield of Canyon Springs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 373. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, Vista del Lago's Godfrey Freeman has rushed for 724 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Murray. The Poly star has 11 catches for 281 yards.
Two of the top units in Inland Valley will face off this week when Arlington takes on Valley View. Pat Mccarthy's team's offense has racked up 113 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Eagles have allowed only 154 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Lions take on Valley View. Arlington is currently in second, while Jack Fogarty's team is in fourth.
Art Giovannini's team moved up to 720 from 897 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Ravens were able to make the jump by beating the Ravens 41-0.
