Softball Recap: Eagle Wins Going Away Against Wood River

Eagle won against Wood River on Wednesday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Wolverines. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Peyton Bargen made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Eagle let Liana Pursche and Taryn Peterman run wild. Pursche scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Peterman scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Pursche a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Addy Giles, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Eagle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Eagle and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Wood River, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Eagle will square off against Ridgevue at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wood River, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cole Valley Christian at 11:45 a.m. on Friday.
