The Sayre Spartans will face off against the Boyle County Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sayre 2.5, Boyle County 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Sayre made easy work of Henry Clay and carried off a 10-3 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Sayre got a great performance from Jaxson Howard as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Howard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaxon Herrera and Gary Gibson did most of the damage at the plate: Herrera scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Gibson fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Herrera also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Camden Stout, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Sayre lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Boyle County didn't have quite enough to beat West Jessamine on Wednesday and fell 6-5. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Boyle County also got a good showing from Roman Smith, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Boyle County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Milburn, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Boyle County's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Sayre, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Boyle County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sayre has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. It's a different story for Boyle County, though, as they've only averaged .347. Will they be able to contain Sayre's hitters?
Sayre couldn't quite get it done against Boyle County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-3. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
