Baseball Recap: Mississinewa Sets Scoring Season-High Against Southwood

Mississinewa's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Southwood Knights. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Gavin Baumgartner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Mississinewa is 3-1 when Baumgartner allows two or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Mississinewa let Lio Matamoros and Kellen Rock run wild. Matamoros went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Rock went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Matamoros a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryson Vasquez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mississinewa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Mississinewa now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Southwood, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mississinewa will face off against Northwestern at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southwood, they will take on Southern Wells at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
