The Yorba Linda Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Sunny Hills Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Yorba Linda will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against St. Paul on Saturday. Yorba Linda's pitcher stepped up to hand St. Paul an 11-0 shutout. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Mustangs this season.
Samantha Cook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Natalia Wojtuszewski was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Saige Block, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.
Yorba Linda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Paul only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sunny Hills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Walnut on Thursday. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Not much got past Alexis Perez, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Walnut off the board.
On the hitting side, Sunny Hills saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KristiAnn Gomez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Sunny Hills now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Yorba Linda, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-4.
