The Onaga Buffaloes lost against the Troy Trojans back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Onaga was the victim of a tough 54-28 loss at the hands of Troy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Onaga in their matchups with Troy: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Onaga lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jackson Kolterman. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with five steals. That was a full 42.9% of Onaga's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Troy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gannon Bowe led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Bowe continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Henry Geiger, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Onaga's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Troy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Onaga will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Troy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy is ranked 193rd, while Troy is ranked 185th).
