The King's Christian Academy Eagles just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in King's Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
King's Christian Academy is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 11, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Lanham Christian, falling 80-58. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Lions : they've now lost six in a row.
Despite their defeat, King's Christian Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Zymere Somerville, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Gladden, who posted nine points and eight assists.
Meanwhile, Southern Maryland Christian Academy entered their tilt with Avalon on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They strolled past the Black Knights with points to spare, taking the game 69-55.
King's Christian Academy better focus on containing Corey Hughley and McGlone as the pair were huge in Southern Maryland Christian Academy's win. Hughley went 13 of 21 on his way to 28 points, while McGlone went 10 of 18 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnie Griffin Lll, who put up seven points and five assists.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. As for King's Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. King's Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.9 points per game. However, it's not like Southern Maryland Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 67.7 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
King's Christian Academy skirted past Southern Maryland Christian Academy 76-74 when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
